What Is An Eyebrow Wax – The Different Types
To remove unwanted hair from your brows, eyebrow waxing can either be hot or cold. Let’s take a closer look at these options below.
Hot Wax
Hot wax takes center stage as the most widespread brow hair and facial hair removal method. Hot wax is typically applied in the direction of your hair growth and to small sections on the skin where unwanted hair is present.
As the wax starts to cool, it melts to the skin's outermost layer, gripping each hair strand. Once the wax starts cooling, a cloth strip is firmly placed over the wax.
After around two to three seconds, the wax and cloth strip are quickly pulled off in the opposite direction of unruly hair growth to remove it.
Cold Wax
Cold wax, commonly known as wax strips, are ready-to-use cellulose or muslin pre-cut strips. These strips come in varying sizes based on the areas where you need the hair removed. The cold wax method is called such since it does not require heat to be melted like hot wax.
However, most cold wax strips will require you to warm them slightly between your hands before using them. Once pulled apart, each cold wax strip has two separate sides.
One side has the transparent layer that must first be removed for the wax to be exposed, and the other has the pre-wax. These strips are placed on the eyebrows and removed to remove unwanted hair.
How Will A Professional Wax Your Eyebrows?
To remove unwanted hair from your brows, the eyebrow waxing procedure a professional will follow is as follows:
A professional will conduct a client consultation regarding an eyebrow wax and what it entails.
Once the consultation is complete and the stylist knows what you want done, they can cut the individual cold wax strips into smaller, brow-sized pieces or prepare the hot wax if you’re comfortable with this type of wax.
Once each brow strip has been cut to size, the stylist will start warming the strips between their palms to activate the wax or will apply the hot wax to your skin directly – without burning you.
Next, each wax strip (with or without wax on it) is gently but firmly separated before being pressed over the desired skin area.
Following this, the stylists will press each strip firmly to the skin toward the hair's growth.
The stylist will quickly pull the strip off, pulling it in the opposite direction of your hair's growth.
Lastly, the stylist will perform any last-minute trimming or tidying of the brows using small scissors or a razor, and once done, your eyebrow waxing session is completed.
