How to Grow Out Your Hair

Changing up your hairstyle is a great way to express yourself and update your look.  Cutting your hair is instant, but growing it out can be a lot harder.  There are lots of different stages you have to get through, and some of them can feel pretty awkward.  The Barber Chair is here to help you understand what to expect during the grow-out process as well as how to make the most of those awkward phases you won’t be crazy about.beard trim sarasota

Hair grows about half an inch per month, but everyone is different.  Yours may grow a little more quickly, or it may grow more slowly.  Age, health, and genetics all play a role in the rate your hair will grow.  Ensuring that you’re eating well, hydrating, and staying active will give your hair the best chance at growing quickly.  While there are vitamins and supplements that offer fast hair growth, don’t expect instant results overnight.

Patience is absolutely essential.  Many people cave and end up cutting off what progress their hair has made while attempting to grow it long.  It can take months or even years to reach your desired length, so you just have to let your hair do its thing while you wait.

To encourage hair growth, getting regular trims is key.  While it might seem like the exact opposite of what you should do, regular trims keep your hair healthy and prevent split ends and breakage.  Schedule trims every six to eight weeks.  You should also always use heat protection products any time you style your hair.  Blow driers, flat irons, and curling irons can all cause major damage to your hair.

If you wash your hair every day or multiple times a day, it’s time to cut back.  Over shampooing is damaging to your hair and scalp as it strips your hair of natural oils.  Try to wash every other day if possible and opt for dry shampoo between washes to avoid looking oily.

Your hair won’t look the way you want it to at every length, but keep your end goal in mind.  Allow your hair stylist or barber to help you achieve the shape you want regardless of length and use styles like braids and buns as you work through your growth process.
